So I'm a little late on getting this New Years post up, and quite honestly it's because I've felt a wee bit overwhelmed. Isn't it funny that we set these expectations for ourselves to just completely turn over a new leaf the moment the clock strikes 12? All of the sudden we are supposed to be healthy, happy, organized, fit, and totally ready for the next year.... am I the only one feeling a little overwhelmed?!?! After looking at this list of goals and to-do's I've set for myself, I concluded that my first step needed to be to declutter my life before I could start fresh for 2018. Here's my game plan: STEPS TO DECLUTTER FOR 2018 1. DECLUTTER YOUR CLOSET I know this is an absolutely daunting task, but I promise you will feel SO much better once you get it done. This task is all about baby steps! If your closet is anything like mine, you'll need a cup of coffee, or a glass of wine... or maybe even a shot of whiskey (lol). My close friends and even my family constantly make remarks about how many clothes and shoes I have, but to my defense I haven't grown much since about 8th grade so everything still fits! haha! I used that a major excuse for a while, and it's most definitely true, BUT why the heck do I still need clothes and shoes that I wore back in the 8th grade?!! So this is how I tackled my closet.... I get three laundry baskets (or you can just make piles) Basket #1: for items I want to trash These are the pieces that may have holes or be super old, and aren't good enough to giveaway or sell. Basket #2: for items you want to giveaway Make sure these items are still in good shape. Basket #3: for items that you want to sell These may be designer pieces, pieces that you paid a little bit more for, or maybe have never been worn. You can sell these pieces on websites like Ebay or Poshmark. Sort the things you want to get ride of into these three categories and I promise it will make this process so much easier! But be sure to act on "trashing, giving away, or selling" ASAP. You don't want to go to all that work just to move your 3 baskets into the corner of your room to sit, lol. 2. DECLUTTER YOUR ELECTRONICS Both my computer and phone have been moving at a glacial pace lately because they are so full of data. I'm starting my year by decluttering all of my electronics so that I can work more efficiently! Here's the steps that I took: DELETE! Go through your phone, computers, and tablets and delete what you don't need anymore such as photos, emails, texts. Not only does this make more room, but now you don't have to go through 1200 selfies and 300 screenshots to find something you actually need! BACKUP! Now that you only have what you need and you care about on your electronics, back them up! Get a little external hard drive, plug it into your computer, drag and drop what you want to back up, and then put your hard drive somewhere you can easily find it. Then you can delete that stuff off of your devices while it is safely stored on your hard drive. They even make storage memory sticks for your phone now! I just ordered this one. These two steps are going to change your world!!! 3. DECLUTTER YOUR WORKSPACE Being more efficient with my time is one of my goals this year. A cluttered workspace immediately prevents me from reaching this goal, lol. If you're like me, you make these random piles of paper all over your desk and then you forget what the piles were for, and then you just have a hot mess on your desk. Here's how to handle your workspace: NO STACKS OF PAPER Go through each stack of paper you have laying out and either file them or throw them away. I like to use something like THIS to organize all of my paperwork. It serves its purpose, it's cute, and isn't too big that it can't be stored away. MANAGE YOUR OFFICE SUPPLIES Get rid of the cup full of pens on your desk that don't work anymore! lol If you have an overabundance of pens or pencils, narrow it down to just a few of your favorites. Get rid of things in your drawer that you never use, or find a new spot for items that don't belong in an office drawer. Drawer organization boxes like THESE are super helpful! START FRESH If you have a bunch of notebooks or tablets full of random notes or doodles, start fresh with a brand new notebook, and a new sticky note pad. Go through your old notebooks and file any notes that may be important, and throw away the rest! I know this is a lot, so don't try to do it all at once! Do a little bit at a time when you have a free moment. I promise, you're going to feel like a whole new you once you rid yourself of all the clutter! I have decluttered my closet and my electronics, and I'm still working on my workspace, but already feeling SO MUCH BETTER! By the way, I have listed a lot of my clothes on Poshmark, so if you'd like to shop my closet, click HERE! I will be adding to it this next week so keep checking it! Good luck you guys! I'd love to hear some feedback if you try these things in the comment section below! xoxo,
