24 Hours in New York

8/6/2018

My mom and I challenged each other recently to create a bucket list and "a girl's trip to NYC" was on both of ours! So when my mom's birthday rolled around a few weeks ago it seemed like a no brainer to check this bad boy off our lists!  My mom loves her little morning shows, ESPECIALLY Live with Kelly & Ryan, so  I  was able to surprise her with tickets to a live filming, and oh em gee SO FUN (will get to those details later)! Although there were like a million and one places and sites I wanted to see on our trip, we only had 24 hours in the city to do it all!!!! So incase you ever get a solid 24 hours in NYC and want to really live up, lol here's what was on our itinerary!

We were a little bummed right off the bat because our flight TO New York ended up getting delayed so that meant we had to ex off a few things from our list, BUT I'm going to share those places with you all too because they're on my list for my next trip there!

We took a direct flight from DFW to LaGuardia, and then had about a 20 minute drive to our hotel!
The flight was around 3 hours, which wasn't bad.

HOTEL

I had SUCH a hard time deciding what hotel to stay at because there are so many fabulous options! I ended up narrowing it down because I knew I wanted an insane view of the New York skyline more than anything.
I chose the Arlo Nomad Hotel, and OH EM GEEEEEE, I was obsessed! Of course the rooms are fairly small, that's typical in New York, but the floor to ceiling glass all the way around the room made you feel like you were just floating on a bed, in the middle of the city!
I will absolutely be staying at this hotel again.

FOOD

PALETTE
This adorable new restaurant is located inside the famous Bergdorf Goodman on 5th Ave, and omg it's what dreams are made of! If you're looking for an instagrammable place to grab a cocktail or light lunch, this is your place! It is a stimulating collection of colors, textures, sparkle, and patterns, and it's fabulous! The food was also really great! I will for sure be going back!

JACK'S WIFE FREDA
I actually went to this restaurant when I went to NYC a few years back, and we didn't have time to visit it on this trip, but it's a must for brunch! Be prepared to either wait, or get there extra early because it is VERY small and fills up quick. It's wonderful and worth it if you have to wait!

ABC KITCHEN
We didn't get to go here, but I've heard such great things about it, so for sure visiting next time!

Sweets by Chloe
Cutest little bakery with delicious treats, pink neon signs!
Picture
Dominique Ansel Bakery
I've never tried a "cronut" before but apparently this bakery has made them a thing!

Cha Cha Matcha
I've never tried matcha before, but I feel like this would be the place to try it, lol.

Pietro Nolita
EVERYTHING is pink! And I've heard they have amazing pasta... What a dream!

SITE SEEING

ROCKEFELLER PLAZA
TOP OF THE ROCK

This was one of my favorite parts! So much happens in Rockefeller Plaza that I didn't even realize! There are concerts, the annual Christmas tree, and so many other events that I've seen on TV for years! It was so cool to actually see where all of that happened!
The Top of the Rock is basically getting to go to the top of the Rockefeller Center and getting a FABULOUS view of the entire city! I would say this is a MUST if you haven't done it before! And be sure to buy your tickets ahead of time if you're planning to go because time slots tend to fill up quick.

 TIME SQUARE
If you've never been to New York this is for sure a site to see! There are so many lights and signs... SO cool to see! If you're traveling alone, I wouldn't recommend hanging out here at night - it doesn't always feel the safest, haha!

LIVE SHOW TAPING
I did NOT know this, but tickets to live show tapings are actually FREE!!!! Who knew?! The challenge is just signing up in time and getting on the ticket list. I was fortunate enough to get us tickets to Live with Kelly and Ryan and it was SO cool! I found the easiest way to view all the show options and times is by downloading the app 1iota - and if you get on a waitlist they will notify you on your ticket status on the app.
Once you finally have your tickets confirmed, Be sure you are ready to wait in line forever tho, lol! My mom and I both enjoyed it so much (even after standing outside in line, IN THE RAIN for 2 hours, haha!) that we would for sure do it again. We want to go to a Jimmy Fallon taping next time :)
